Julie Wyatt Chair Cancer Chat Cafe

Julie Wyatt
Chair

Julie Wyatt has been involved in Cancer care and Support since 1990.  She met her husband when she was 14 and he was 17 and they have been together ever since. They spent some years living and working in Aden, Singapore and Hong Kong. Once back in England Julie trained as a Healer, Hypnotherapist and Stress Manager. She had a small consulting room in her home and also volunteered at the Harry Edwards Healing Sanctuary in Shere.

It was at the Sanctuary that she met Nigel Lewis-Baker and he invited her to lead some meditation evenings for his Topic of Cancer Charity. This eventually became the Cancer Chat Café in 2022 and she became involved in helping to run this and is delighted to continue doing so.

Celia Marchisio
Secretary

Celia Marchisio trained as an opera singer at The Royal Academy of Music, London and performed until she had cancer in her mid 30s, which stopped her career. Her family name is Italian and she comes from generations of musicians through her father. She continued with her private, adult Singing Teaching career at first in North London and then in Leatherhead from 2000. She moved to Great Bookham in 2018. After her cancer she became a Spiritual Healer and later a Reiki Healer and Teacher. She also became interested in the healing power of the human voice and has also taught Sound therapy for many years. As a cancer survivor she was delighted to be asked to be a supportive volunteer at the Cancer Chat Café.

Chris Boughey, Treasurer, Cancer Chat Cafe

Chris Boughey
Treasurer

In his professional life, Chris spent 30 years with NatWest Bank but switched management roles to the NHS working for another 14 years in Primary Care.

Throughout his life and particularly in retirement, he has been involved with a range of charity work focussed on supporting others whether it be with the Scout Association, Rotary International, Volunteer Driving, Dementia Care or various community organisations, where helping others has always been part of his philosophy.

In retirement however he was diagnosed with Bowel Cancer then more recently Prostate Cancer. Both “journeys” have provided him a greater insight from the consumer’s perspective of navigating the incredible services offered by all health care providers.

Knowing both the cofounders of the Topic of Cancer well, their original aims have inspired Chris to be involved with the launch of the Cancer Chat Café, which hopefully will provide additional support to those whose lives have been touched by cancer.

Chris will also be involved in helping gauge the interest in this new project and as we said in our publicity article “it’s good to talk” and often a problem shared is a problem halved.
